Unforgettable moments in African continent
A trip to the African continent was always one of my greatest dreams. This dream came true in October 2012 when I was able to leave to become an exchange student in Malawi, a small town called Zomba. I went on an exchange to study Sociology at Chancellor College, University of Malawi. The Malawian way of life immediately hit on me and it was hard not to smile, because the Malawians themselves are a wonderful people. The days passed by studying social sciences and the social affairs of the African continent. I also went on a trip from Malawi to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in December 2012, where I participated in an urban housing development project together with other university students. I got to visit the Kebena area, where we got to know how locals live and how different forms of housing can exist.
I returned to Finland from Malawi in February 2013, but I could wait a little over a year until the African continent called back again. I set out for Johannesburg in August 2014.The purpose of the trip was to complete an internship at the South African Institute for Human Rights (HURISA). My internship was a success and I met so many wonderful people and nowadays I keep in touch with them. Johannesburg became an important hometown for me at that time and I didn't find it scary (as some people have told). All in all, three months in South Africa went by very quickly and I came back to Finland. Africa itself, however, left a longing in my heart and I want to return there again soon. I wrote two different blogs about my adventures in Malawi and South Africa, they can be found here:
